MAPSONS — Offshore Wind Siting Optimization

A bilateral Greece-Norway research project led by the Marine GIS Group of LEQAGA, University of the Aegean, developing a methodological framework for optimizing offshore wind farm siting in Greek waters. The project assessed 10 medium-term offshore renewable energy areas (978 km2, 4.9 GW capacity) identified by HEREMA. Completed April 2025.

WebGIS Platform for Seawater Quality Assessment

A web-based GIS application developed at LEQAGA, University of the Aegean, for real-time assessment of seawater quality in coastal areas of the Northern Aegean Sea. The platform integrates in-situ measurements, satellite data, and socio-economic parameters to support environmental monitoring and policy implementation.

Integrated Monitoring System for Coastal and Riparian Areas

A multi-sensor approach developed by the Marine GIS Group of LEQAGA, University of the Aegean, combining remote sensing, machine learning, and field observations to monitor coastal and riparian ecosystem health. Developed in collaboration with national and international partners.

EU and International Collaborations

The Marine GIS Group of LEQAGA, University of the Aegean, has participated in numerous European Union-funded research projects and has offered services as an international expert to the EU and other international organizations on marine environmental quality, spatial planning, and renewable energy.
